"No one's perfect, at any age. Being different is what's key. I'll find the good in everyone, including Mum and me."
About the book
A heartwarming, relatable story about a child who adores their perfectly imperfect mum, burnt dinners, pink socks, keys on the car roof, and all.
Written by a fellow parent who's still learning each day, it celebrates mistakes, self-compassion, and the beauty of trying, even when things feel frustrating, scary, or tough.

Rhyming, read-aloud fun with a gentle message for grown-ups too.
Hi, I'm Hannah, the original Clumsy Mumsy
Hannah Johnson (she/her)
Every single oops in I Love My Clumsy Mumsy really happened to me. Most of them more than once. (Yes, even the boot. On a rainy day.) The book left out the time I drove to work with my eggs on toast still on the car roof.
When I'm not losing my keys (or my phone, while it's in my hand), I'm a registered psychologist from the Illawarra, NSW, working with children, young people, and families in schools.
I'm also trained in play therapy, because play is how children naturally explore, express their feelings, and connect with the grown-ups around them. That's why this is a playroom: a safe, joyful place to do exactly that, where my professional world meets the one covered in paint and squashed snacks.
I also have a busy, buzzing brain. It's brilliant for big ideas, deep dives, and noticing the little things, and less brilliant for remembering why I walked into the kitchen.
Here are some reasons why I do what I do:
Play and laughter. Kids learn best when they're having fun, and grown-ups cope better when they can laugh at themselves.
Every kind of family and every kind of brain. My work is culturally responsive, neurodiversity affirming, and LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and so are my stories. Everyone is welcome in the playroom. Different isn't wrong. It's just a different way of buzzing.
Kids and their grown-ups. Warm, safe relationships with the adults around them help children feel secure, and it's never too late to repair after a wobble.
Parents, carers and teachers. Looking after little people is hard, wonderful, and sometimes involves burnt dinner. You're doing better than you think.
My books are written for two readers at once: the child snuggled on your lap, and you. If you close one of my books feeling a little lighter about your own oopsies, my job is done.
